‘Outtake$’ is a collection of beats that didn’t make the cut for the official EP simply because of their more classic form.

B.Lewis – Plug EP

null

After spending the past three years honing his craft through prolific self-released projects, B.Lewis presents his Plug EP, out on Jus Like Music Records – home to the likes of BUG, Jesse Futerman and Paper Tiger.

PLUG infuses soulful hip-hop elements with glitched out, heavy beats. But don’t be fooled – this is a lot deeper than your average contemporary ‘beats’ release. B.Lewis, for such a young man, has an old head on his shoulders. Whether uptempo and hectic, or slower and melodic, he manages to weave a fine level of intricacy into his tracks. Plug is hard and dramatic in parts, yet smooth and well tempered in others, and it really needs to be listened to from start to finish.

Simon & G-Funk – MNLTHM RMX EP

null

It’s been an amazing couple of months for our dude Monolithium. Simon & G-Funk, his debut via Error Broadcast, has gained quite a bit of traction within the underground continuum. He’s popped up on XLR8R a couple of times & the title track has been receiving spins from the likes of Om Unit, Jacques Greene & Jay Scarlett. He performed at MUTEK & has upcoming slots at Rifflandia & Decibel Festival.

In the wake of all that loveliness, quite a slew of remixes popped up outside of the official Ango & Prison Garde joints that accompanied the EP. So we’ve gathered those reworks alongside “Simon & G-Funk” and YES, we giving that shit away.

Trap music, warehouse vibes, psych crunk, aqueous funk – take your pick, these remixers take Monolithium’s sound to new places. Snatch it up…

40 Winks Albums!

40 Winks is an instrumental hip hop group made up of two producers – padmo’ and weedy – from Antwerp, Belgium.

40 Winks hit the scene in 2002, with a whole slew of laidback beats. Eager to share their sound with the world, they released a couple of albums independently. The attention they got from this, allowed them to build with people from around the world.
One of these independently released albums, More Than Loops, got reissued in Japan on Swamp Records, after that the ball kept rolling. On their first worldwide release, Extended Pleasure on Escapism Records (2005), they reached listeners well beyond the (instrumental) hip hop community with the song “melancholia”. After appearances on compilations, like Weapons of Hope on Little-D (2006), they got a chance to do their thing on the renowned label, Merck Records with Sound Puzzle (2007). All this led them back to Europe, where the German based Project: Mooncircle welcomed them with a spot on the compilation Heart on the right spot (2007) and a full album The Lucid Effect (2008). In 2009 they took some time off, doing solo stuff and remixes. In 2011 40 Winks is back with a double LP called It’s The Trip (2011) on Project: Mooncircle.

Monolithium – Simon & G-Funk

null

Victoria’s Chris Longshanks is a DJ that knows the dance floor by heart. Not only dedicated to spin other people’s tunes, however, Longshanks recently unleashed his production moniker Monolithium, which fuses the best from electro, skweee, dubstep and funk, delivering an original angle on bass music.

Error Broadcast instantly fell in love with Monolithium’s debut EP Simon & G-Funk for its neck-snapping potential and heavy dose of funk, combined with an in-yer-face hip hop attitude. At the same time the EP sounds hot and humid, entirely synthetic, and slightly suspicious. Ango (LuckyMe) and Prison Garde (ex-SixToo) appear on Simon & G-Funk as remixers, adding their unique portion of sexiness.

Having lent her talent to the recent Floating Points Ensemble EP, label mates and long time collaborators Fatima and Floating Points once again join forces.  The Follow You EP showcases the natural chemistry between the London based/Swedish born singer and FP’s Sam Shepherd. The EP’s four tracks are a cohesive expression of Fatima’s inner thoughts and feelings, wearing a warm heart boldly on it’s sleeve as the pair journey through soul, gospel, blues and house… allowing the songstress to pour her emotions over Floating Points’ fuzzy, full bodied beats and keys

Submotion Orchestra – Finest Hour

null

Submotion Orchestra is a live 7-piece project from Leeds, incorporating deep bass-driven grooves and dense textures in their progressive live dubstep sound. Leaving crowds inspired and often open-mouthed in their wake, this is not live dubstep to be taken lightly. The members have all cut their teeth on live dub, funk, reggae, jazz and even grime bands previously, so are no strangers to complex rhythm or rootical bass. Having been formed in early 2009 as an experimental live project, the band have quickly established themselves as one of the most exciting up-and-coming acts this year. Expect to hear blissful tones and weighty sub-bass, interwoven with tight rhythmic intensity from this incredibly talented outfit.
