Shlohmo – Camping EP

null

Better known to friends, family, and Friends of Friends, as the 20-year-old Henry Laufer, the SF-by-LA producer Shlohmo returns with Camping, a digi-EP celebrating the May 24th first-run vinyl release of this year’s Shlohmoshun Deluxe LP. Having already headlined LA’s premiere beat-based party, Low End Theory as well as being featured by XLR8R, the BBC (Mary Anne Hobbs), LA Times and more, Shlohmo is on the tip of the ear for those attuned to the spaced out beat scene led by Flying Lotus, Ras G, & Nosaj Thing, among others…

As far as titles go, Camping is particularly apropos; the outdoor and indoor collide as Shlohmo’s selection of found sounds rub up agianst the technology of 8-bit blap & subwoofer stress tests in three new tracks. Additional amenities include remixes from hotly tipped LA music maker Baths and fellow up-and-comer Asura (on the AWESOME new LA label, Non Projects) as well as recent Ghostly International signing Shigeto. There’s also a rework from Shloh’ himself, flipping Shlohmoshun Deluxe opener “Tomato Squeeze” into “Tomato Smash.” Camping comes just as Shlohmo stakes out a brand new full-length and will surely tide those itching to hear what Mr. Laufer has in store for us in the near future!

Waxolutionists – We Paint Colors

null

The world famous Waxolutionists from Vienna present their fifth long player “We Paint Colors”! Following the success of their last 12″ “Feet don´t fail me” feat. Dave Ghetto, Hezekiah & Mystic, “Flashlight” feat. Hygher Baby, and “Dance with me” feat. Dave Ghetto, Hezekiah & Mystic, the Waxos deliver a full spectrum on their LP. Whether it’s classic rap-tracks, soulful deep affairs, dark Detroit inspired tunes, jazz-influenced tracks driven by live-instrumentation or new styled fresh beats… it’s all there… and under the magic hands of the Waxolutionists, it just fits together – naturally. P.U.D.G.E – Idiot Box

null

Jamaican/LA artist P.U.D.G.E recently ignited the All City LA ten inch series with his riotous blend of tough funk and bumped electronic boogie licks, now he lands up on London’s Ramp Recordings for his debut full LP. A dozen cuts made in the free jam-zone, loose limbed P-funk stylistics rub up against samplist friction, soulful licks and avant-garde noise bursts. Anyone plugged into the LA scene will definitely be hip to this.

Alain Goraguer – La Planète Sauvage (An Original Soundtrack Recording)

null

A totally excellent soundtrack! This is one of the maddest we’ve heard from the 70s — with a baroque mix of wah wah funk and sophisticated orchestrations, very much in the mode of work by David Axelrod or some of the backings heard on Serge Gainsbourg’s best records. No surprise it’s handled by Alain Gouraguer, a groovy Frenchman with a style that’s a mix of the late 60s baroquery of Michel Columbier, and some of the smooth sexiness of the best Italian composers of his age. Great electric piano, wah wah guitar, and soaring strings — with a sound that’s as odd as the cover! Titles include “Le Bracelet”, “Deshominisation”, “Mort De Draag”, “La Femme”, “Mira Et Ten”, and “Ten Et Medor”.

Raymond Scott – Manhattan Research Inc

null

MANHATTAN RESEARCH INC. features electronic music, musique concrete experiments, advertising jingles, and soundtracks originally featured in Jim Henson’s pre-Muppet films. The electronic sounds generated on this 2-CD set were made by Raymond Scott inventions including the Clavivox, Circle Machine, Bass Line Generator, Rhythm Modulator, Karloff, Bandito The Bongo Artist and Electronium.

Recorded between 1953 & 1969. Includes liner notes by Joel Chadabe, Jeff Winner, Karen Falk, Gert-Jan Blom and Irwin Chusid. Includes interviews with Robert Moog, Herb Deutsch, Alan Entenman and Thomas Rhea.

Fascinated by the orderliness of sounds and machines, Raymond Scott composed and produced his innovative, eccentric, electronic music for commercials, films and his own amusement in the ’50s and ’60s. In assembling this overview of Scott’s oeuvre, this lavish double album writes an important chapter in his life and career, defining his place in electronic music’s history.

Gonjasufi aka Sumach Albums!

San Diego-bred yoga instructor Sumach Ecks turned from rapping with the Masters of the Universe crew and DJing with Killowattz to focus on his solo endeavors under the name Artist. In 2006, around the time he relocated to Las Vegas to teach yoga, he crossed paths with Gaslamp Killer and Flying Lotus, and the three established a bond. Ecks, who had been making lo-fi psychedelic hip-hop for his own enjoyment, recruited the two beatmakers to produce songs for him, which he would later enhance with his distinctive raspy vocals. After Ecks released the 7″ singles “Ancestors” and “Kowboyz & Indians,” the full-length A Sufi and a Killer (Warp) was released in 2010.

Veebeeo – Instrumentality

null

VeeBeeO aka Tim Lundblad was born in the city of Stockholm in 1981. Growing up with musicians as parents he was constantly surrounded by all kinds of music, something that came to be the foundation for the special blend he now produces, as well as his love for good music of all genres. He began playing drums at the age of 8 and a few years later he also took interest in keyboard, bass, guitar, making beats and the art of recording, with time turning him into the multiskilled muscian/producer/songwriter he is today. Veebeo appears on the already highly acclaimed Beat Dimensions project (Rush Hour) and now comes his debut 12” EP “Instrumentality”. A 6 track EP with headnodding beats for ya eardrums, CHECK!

Funkineven – She’s Acid / Must Move

After the success of the Kleer EP, West London’s Funkineven returns for his second release, the double sided, riotous dancefloor work out that is She’s Acid/Must Move. Resurrecting the spirits of Moroder, Art Of Noise and Marshall Jefferson through a modem powered Ouija board, whilst simultaneously hand writing a love letter to the inventors of lazer technology, Roland drum machines and sex toys. It’s deep and beautiful dance music: digital, analogue, delicate and physical.

Mindesign – Lights and Tunnels

null

Born in San Diego, California, Mind spent his early years submerged in musicianship. “My uncle was a drummer and my pops played a little bit of guitar. I was real young at the time, so my memory’s a bit fuzzy, but if there’s anything I can remember, it was always being in the garage playing with the drum set. I always had a thing for drums…something about the boom bap.” After making the move to the east coast at the age of 6, he somewhat drifted away from that musical atmosphere, only to be reunited with it in his middle – high school years where he observed his older brother making beats with FruityLoops. Fully embracing the beat making culture, Mind stayed focused, diligently perfecting his craft. As time passed, it was becoming more apparent that his passion was destined for the world to appreciate. Drawing influences from a multitude of musical genres (classic rock, funk, soul, progressive jazz, electronic, & obvious hip hop producers), he strives to maintain purity in self-expression. Mind’s pieces seem to embody an organic feel, taking you on a spiritual vacation through strong buildups and complex motifs. Equipped with cosmic textures & soulful harmonies, he invites you to open your ears, as well as your heart. “If there’s anything I’m looking to achieve through my music, it’s reminding folks that Love is all you need.”

Samiyam Albums!

Sam Baker, alias Samiyam, is an instrumental Hip-Hop producer from Ann Arbor, Michigan. He is best known for his work with experimental producer, Flying Lotus, and his 8-bit Video Game inspired Hip-Hop beats. Ann Arbor’s latest prodigal son and lover of sprinkles on doughnuts, takes the legacy of all Detroit’s talented musical sons and daughters and makes Hip Hop beats filled with snippets of Soul, Funk, 70’s Italian horror flick soundtracks, Nintendo bonus level music, and 90’s Hip Hop. Somehow, with this much content, the beats still manage to sound gloriously minimal and disjointed. Fans like Benji B, Andrew Meza and XLR8R have been eagerly snapping up his tracks, as Sam freeze frames Electro energy and spits it back out as twisted future Jazz. Dabrye is a fan, Daedelus describes him as “a thrilling sound to break the sameness,” and Flying Lotus is his brother in arms (they collaborate on the project FLYamSAM).
