DJ Mitsu the Beats – Midnight Roses

Although still largely unheralded in Europe outside the nu-jazz and downtempo hip-hop scenes, DJ Mitsu The Beats is widely regarded as one of Japan’s finest dusty-fingered crate-diggers, with a colossal record collection to match. As a result, his sporadic mix CDs are never less than essential listening. For this latest audio adventure, he’s decided to don his best pulling pants and head off on an erection section excursion through the dimly lit world of soft-focus jazz-funk, lovelorn rare groove and slow-dance instrumentals. Think pages from Ceefax, Tony Hart’s Gallery and Barry White doing the horizontal rumba (but not at the same time, obviously). Sleazy, easy and oh-so smooth.
